Sarah and Frank drive the investigation in this book, while they get help from Sarah's parents, Maeve, Gino, and others. Jack Robinson makes another appearance in this novel, his new wife Jocelyn ready to have a baby. We learn a little about Chinese men, who came to work on the railroads, and then stayed to marry the only young women available to them, the Irish, who may have been the only surviving members of their families.I love the relationship between Sarah and Frank, as well as Sarah's mother and father. If readers ever wondered whether Sarah's parents would become close and loving with children Brian and Catherine, this story will warm your heart. Mrs. Ellsworth makes an appearance, as well, with her good friend, Mother Malloy. Reading this series and others that deal with murder among the upper crust makes me realize how New York's wealthy have the same issues as anyone.Turn of the century NYC only adds to the allure of the action. The characters are delightful, or alternatively, depraved. An exciting denoument and a happy ending make this a very satisfying book. I love this series, and I'm hoping that Sarah and Frank have a baby of their own one day. I had almost given up on the series as the books where concentrating too much on Maeve and Gino but I had loved Jack and Jocelyn and was thrilled to see they where coming back so I pre-order the book. It's obvious that Ms.Thompson read reviews and listen to the fans wich is greatly appreciated. This book really went back to the earlier days with Sarah and Malloy at the forefront of an investigation with their banter and chemistry and discussing the cases on their own. This book brings back Sara's parents which are always a delight to read, they are so interesting and likeable. I hope we get to see Jocelyn and Jack again I think they will make great friends to the Malloys and actually I can see Jack helping Malloy in some cases and Jocelyn being a friend to Sarah. I really loved the dynamic that Jack and Malloy had at the end waiting on the baby. I was really glad to see very little of Maeve and Gino. Meave is such an unlikeable character I just really don't like her at all but I was glad she was not as much on the book and when she was she was actually helpful I'm still baffled at the Malloy's worry so much about her but I guess she is thought of as family I just would love to have at least one scene where she is grateful to them and not so entitled but I digress, this is definitely one book to pick and fall in love with the series all over again.
